Basic Watercolor Workshop on Pteridophytes​

Hosted by the Plant Biology Division. This introductory four-day course comprises of lectures, workshops and demonstrations supplemented with hands-on practical sessions for botanical art with the use of watercolor. Through lectures and practical sessions, the resource persons will demonstrate key concepts with regard to fern morphology and important skills for botanical art. Participants will be introduced to a variety of taxonomic resources as references. The workshop is open to interested individuals and the shortcourse hopes to create a deeper appreciation to ferns through illustrations.

Course outcomes:

  1. Have a good understanding of ferns.
  2. Be acquainted with taxonomic resources (Herbaria, libraries, floras, internet sources, etc.).
  3. Acquire skills such as sketching, color theory and watercolor techniques.
  4. Create fern illustrations.
  5. Have a deeper understanding and appreciation to ferns.
