The Institute of Biological Sciences is a National Center of Excellence in Basic Sciences
We deliver high-quality instruction and research on various fields and disciplines in biology. With Mt. Makiling and Laguna Lake on our doorstep, our campus offers students opportunities to discover and explore Philippine biodiversity.
Research Excellence
Our community comprises more than 90 faculty and research staff. Many of our faculty are experts in their field, with several Outstanding Young Scientists, Outstanding Teacher Awardees, Outstanding Researcher Awardees, and UP Scientists. Our research projects cover a diverse array of topics in biology that are important for food security, biodiversity conservation, environmental and human health, and resilience.
Instruction and Learning
Our students acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and experience that will give them a competitive edge in their chosen career. We offer stimulating and comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs across various disciplines in biology such as botany, zoology, wildlife science, microbiology, cell and molecular biology, taxonomy and systematics, ecology, and evolution.
