Zoology major

What is the Zoology major program all about?

The Zoology major focuses on the biology and conservation of invertebrates and marine and freshwater fishes.  This major program offers various courses that are taxon-based to train students on animal identification and on the field and laboratory techniques that are used for research. Other courses of the major program help integrate concepts on the anatomy, physiology and ecology of various animal groups.

What research topics can I work on?

Students may conduct research in the fields of malacology, parasitology, toxicology, natural products, animal physiology, coral reef ecology, fisheries, aquaculture, plankton ecology, and marine protected areas.

What are my possible career opportunities after graduating with this major field?

Because of the versatile nature of the Zoology curriculum, Zoology graduates can proceed to a wide array of professions.  Zoology graduates can study medicine and other allied fields.  Others can pursue a career in research or conservation and work for various institutes such as the government sector and non-government organizations.  They may also become consultants for monitoring and environmental impact studies.  Zoology graduates may also work for zoological parks and aquaria.  In addition, the undergraduate program can prepare students towards obtaining a graduate degree and entering the academe as professors.
