UPLB Limnological Research Station

The UPLB Limnological Research Station is located near the foreshore of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines.   This facility occupies 4.78 ha of land in Barangay Mayondon, Los Baños, Laguna and is dedicated to studies on limnology and biology of freshwater organisms.  Research focuses on developing strategies for sustained production of aquatic resources such as ornamental fish and culture of live feeds.  The station is also currently conducting captive breeding studies on some endangered and endemic fishes through the Fish Ark Philippines, a program funded by PCAMRD-DOST.

The station has an extensive system of hatchery, incubators, fry-rearing tanks, and outdoor grow-out ponds.   The facility also has three equipped laboratories that support research on breeding of ornamental and food fish, and a collection of live native and endemic freshwater fishes.  Conference/training rooms and library are also provided in the building.
